
Some homeless shelters in rural Nova Scotia are facing backlash from members of the public who believe the shelters are making homelessness worse, but advocates say the numbers suggest a different story. At a public meeting last month, hundreds of people packed into the Kentville Fire Hall looking for answers about what’s being done about the homeless situation in the community. Organizers said one of the questions service providers hear routinely is whether homeless shelters in town are attracting more homeless people to the community.
