Some Newfoundland and Labrador municipalities have recognized National Indigenous Peoples Day as an official holiday but one St. John’s-based Indigenous group is calling for additional action to advance truth and reconciliation.
For Chad Bedard, First Light’s manager of knowledge mobilization, tackling truth and reconciliation should involve collaboration.
“It means that you start working with Indigenous organizations like First Light and you start allowing space for Indigenous voices when it comes to municipalities and decision making,” he said.
