Number of encampments in Toronto has dropped significantly in past year, city says

Toronto has seen a substantial drop in the number of homeless encampments in the past year, according to city data, but advocates for unhoused people say that doesn’t mean homelessness is decreasing.

In a statement Wednesday, the city said the number of encampments on its properties decreased year-over-year from 283 in March 2025 to 84 as of March 15, 2026.

Of those 84 encampments, 65 are in city parks and 19 are in rights-of-way, which include streets, sidewalks, boulevards and alleys, according to the city.
