La Ronge debates spending $11,400 on a free campground for homeless people

The Town of La Ronge is considering building a campground for homeless people this year, hoping to reduce encampments elsewhere.

“We’re noticing an increased amount of camping in our parks and green spaces during the warmer months,” community services director Connor Tessier wrote in an emailed statement to CBC.

The town has received complaints from residents who have concerns about sanitation, fire, theft, aesthetics and drug use, according to a Request for Direction report sent to council by the community services department.
