Province quietly moves tenants into downtown Winnipeg building being converted into transitional housing

The conversion of a downtown Winnipeg building from a college into a transitional housing facility is getting a thumbs up from some of its neighbours, even though they don’t know much about it.

The provincial government purchased the former Booth University College at 447 Webb Place — near the corner of Colony Street and Ellice Avenue — and plans to spend $24.4 million to transform the seven-storey, 87,000-square-foot structure, the Manitoba budget said this week.

It will provide transitional housing and wraparound supports for 118 people who don’t have homes.
