Surrey homeless facility could close because of funding shortage

Jack O’Halloran, CEO of Surrey Urban Mission, says the Healthy Living Complex, which provides showers and laundry to those in need, might shut down by Aug. 15 because their funding is running out.

Open since November of 2022, the Healthy Living Complex has run on the original funding from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) at least four months longer than they originally planned. Once the one-time grant from UBCM was slated to end, the Healthy Living Complex received a small grant from BC Housing to continue through this summer.

The Healthy Living Complex is actively seeking sponsorships and grants to keep the facility open so that it can continue serving the over 40,000 clients they’ve served over the past year.
