Outreach workers Steven Halldorson and Erin Guidolin jump in their Salvation Army-branded vehicle in the back lane between Main Street and Martha Street to help people in Winnipeg who are homeless.
They hand out water and food. In the winter, the duo gives toques, mitts, jackets and hand warmers.
Giving people basic necessities can be the first step in helping them find housing.
“It’s heartbreaking” to see people homeless and hear their stories, Guidolin said.
“It’s rewarding when we can do what we can.”
They are among two of the people involved in the province’s effort to end chronic homelessness by 2031. What they’re doing is making a difference.
