On Monday, hundreds of volunteers in Montreal came together to make sandwiches for those experiencing homelessness, an initiative spearheaded by local groups Ladies of Sandwiches and Bread and Beyond. The event, held at a gym, aimed to prepare 5,000 sandwiches—one for every homeless person in the city. Volunteers organized in assembly lines, ensuring that all sandwiches would be distributed efficiently to ten partner organizations. Heather Hodges from the Green Avenue Community Centre emphasized that there would be no waste, as every sandwich was pre-scheduled for delivery.

Quebec Social Services Minister Lionel Carmant noted that collaboration is essential to tackle the crisis effectively, suggesting that financial resources are not the only solution. Despite the challenges, community organizations remain committed to making a difference, continuing their efforts to support vulnerable populations, one sandwich at a time.
