Chippewas of the Thames First Nation is building a new 150-bed addiction and mental health treatment centre that will blend both Indigenous and Western practices to treat upwards of 900 people per year.
The project is a joint venture between the Chippewas of the Thames and Honos Health, and will not only offer addiction and mental health treatment, but also create jobs for local First Nations and generate long-term revenue for the community, according to the First Nation.
“We know that demand for recovery support outpaces available beds,” said Chippewas of the Thames Chief Joe Miskokomon on CBC’s Afternoon Drive.
“We also hear from our citizens that mental health and addictions support is a core priority,” he said. “We have taken these needs seriously and are grateful for this new partnership to bring essential care into our territory.”
