Fredericton Homeless Shelters unveils 4-phase project to get 100 people off streets

Just two months after the closure of its overnight homeless shelter, Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc. is unveiling a four-phase project that will provide a combination of permanent and temporary housing solutions for nearly 100 individuals.

The project began with the acquisition of a duplex, which will provide permanent housing for four people, and will end with the development of a supportive housing apartment building and a complete overhaul of the organization’s men’s shelter.

“We knew there was a group of people out there that were infinitely houseable, but there wasn’t anything there that existed for them,” said Warren Maddox, executive director of Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc.

“All of a sudden, things clicked and aligned and we got this thing up in three weeks.” Two women moved into their permanent home this week, occupying one of two units in a duplex on the north side of Fredericton.
