Stella’s Circle is stepping up to open 15 new transitional housing units in St. John’s to fill what the organization calls a critical gap.
Lead executive officer Laura Winters says she believes the current system is under-serving women and the gender diverse population who are facing homelessness.
Currently, Winters says only eight other units like this exist in the city, and that is far from meeting the need for this demographic.
“We are creating a whole new resource; women and gender diverse folks have needs around housing that look different… and it is incredibly important that we meet the needs of the population that need those services,” Winters told reporters on Monday.
Stella’s Circle is a charitable organization in Newfoundland and Labrador that offers affordable housing options and on-site wrap-around services to help those facing homelessness achieve housing stability. They currently operate 148 supportive units throughout N.L.
