Michael Glomba says the outreach services in Thunder Bay, Ont., are unlike any he’s seen across the country.
Glomba, who’s originally from London, Ont., has lived in many different places across the country. He’s been in the northwestern Ontario city for the last six months and is on a waitlist to get into housing.
He ended up connecting with the Waabanung Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub and is now part of its HART WORKS pilot program.
“A lot of people need to be more aware of what’s really here and what’s going on because it really does help,” Glomba said.
The Ontario government introduced the HART Hub model in January 2025 after issuing new rules in August 2024 about how close supervised consumption sites could be to schools and child-care settings, forcing the closure of several such sites across the province.
Thunder Bay’s HART Hub opened in April 2025 after the city’s only supervised consumption site, Path 525, shut down.
