Friendship centres in Quebec brace for federal, provincial funding shortfalls

Like many friendship centres across Canada, Native Montreal, an organization founded in 2014, is bracing for serious cuts. At the end of March, the federal government’s Urban Programming for Indigenous Peoples (UPIP) funding stream is set to end, and Native Montreal relies on it for operational support.

“The potential cuts will definitely impact us,” executive director Philippe Tsaronséré Meilleur told APTN News (in a French interview). “Obviously, we have to make cuts, and we certainly can’t continue to develop despite the needs that are still unmet.”
