Quebec earmarks $12.5M to address homelessness across the province

Quebec will be putting up $12.5 million to fight homelessness around the province, most of which will go to the City of Montreal.

Social Solidarity Minister Chantal Rouleau made the announcement Thursday morning.

The province estimates that around 12,000 people were unhoused in 2025, a 20 per cent increase over 2022. Most of them, around 5,000, live in Montreal. The Quebec City and Montérégie regions follow behind with homeless populations of just over 1,000 people.

Montreal will be getting the lion’s share of the funding — around $5 million — while amounts varying between $100,000 and $850,000 will be set aside for remaining regions.

Rouleau was at Productions Jeun’Est in Montreal’s east end Thursday where organizations that support people who are unhoused are holding a day-long clinic.
