First tenants at London’s new micro-modular shelter site move in

London’s new micro-modular shelter site has begun welcoming its first residents, with as many as 20 people expected to be settled in by the end of the week, city officials said. The temporary shelter, located south of Hwy. 401 on what had been a cornfield at the corner of Max Brose Drive and Cheese Factory Road, will ultimately house up to 70 people in 60 private units when fully occupied. The site is expected to operate through April 2027. Move-ins began on Monday and are being staggered with small groups arriving each day, allowing staff to support intake and orientation, assess individual needs and ensure on-site services are sufficient, the city says.
